GE A730 Review - Digital Camera Review

GE-A730.jpg

Digital Camera Review have published a review of the GE A730 digital camera. ‘The A730 is black with silver accents. It is lightweight (only 120g without the 2 AA batteries), but has a boxy dressed up disposable camera feel. Other point and shoot (P&S) cameras pride themselves in their sleek, sexy, fit-in-the-hand (or pocket) designs, but the A730 does not quite meet those standards. The front of the camera consists of the 3x auto focus zoom lens, flash, microphone (for video capture), AF assist beam/timer indicator, and of course the GE logo—just like the one on your kitchen appliances!’

GE E850 Digital Camera Review at Digital Camera Review

GE-E850.jpg

Digital Camera Review have published a review of the GE E850 digital camera. ‘The GE E850 is purely a point and shoot camera. There is an "M" mode on the dial, but don't let it confuse you - it's essentially a program auto mode. In full auto mode, you can change the flash modes, focus modes, timer modes, exposure compensation, capture resolution and image quality (compression settings). In "M" or program auto mode, you can change the above, plus the white balance, ISO, and color settings. Besides auto and program auto, there are several other modes accessible via the mode dial. Playback mode is on there, as well as panorama assist mode, portrait mode, digital image stabilization mode, scene modes, and movie mode.’

Review: General Electric G1 Digital Camera – Digital Camera Info

General-Electric-G1.jpg

Digital Camera Info have published a review of the General Electric G1 digital camera. ‘The front looks like a cross between a flat Sony T-series digital camera and a shiny black refrigerator. The left side of the front curves ever so slightly to the back to make somewhat of a hand grip, although the surface is so slick that this camera will slide right out of your hands if they’re even a bit sweaty. There is a circular GE logo on the left that certainly reinforces the refrigerator look. In the lower left corner are printed words: "7.0 megapixel G1." The upper right portion of the center of the camera houses the lens unit, surrounded by a square, chrome frame. To the right of the tiny lens is a tiny LED indicator lamp that doubles as an auto focus assist lamp. To the left of the lens is a small flash unit., and below the lens are the printed lens’ specs: "3x optical zoom 6.4-19.2mm 1:3.5-4.3." Echoing the chrome frame around the lens is a larger rectangular chrome frame around the entire front.’

GoPro Digital Hero 3 Camera - CNET

GoPro-Digital-Hero-3-Camera.jpg

The GoPro Digital Hero 3 camera is designed to be strapped to your wrist and used to shoot photos and video while you are swimming or diving. 'Barely larger than a pair of AA batteries, the camera body consists of a tiny, gray box. It has just two buttons and a monochrome status display, making it one of the simplest cameras we've seen in years. The only way to frame a shot is through the tiny viewfinder, which becomes completely obscured when you put the camera inside its waterproof enclosure. The clear plastic case is quite well made and hooks onto a foam-rubber-and-velcro wristband. Tight seals make sure the box stays waterproof so the camera inside doesn't drown, while two buttons connect to cameras' buttons.

Monitor Your Immediate Surroundings With Remote Spy Video Car

RC Spy Video Car with Night Vision.jpg

If you have ever operated a night vision monocular, binoculars or goggles you would be aware of the capability to see objects and activities in total darkness. However, there are two minor drawbacks when operating consumer night vision devices. Firstly, the infrared illuminator which provides the “invisible” beam to illuminate complete darkness can be seen (albeit with some effort) as a red dot when the device is turned on. Secondly, you have to place yourself in a position where you can see the subject of observation and by extension risk exposure should the area become lit. The Spy Video Car from Think Geek addresses both these concerns allowing the user to monitor suspicious activity from a secure environment.

Navman iCN 750 In-Car Portable Navigation

Navman iCN 750.jpg

The Navman iCN 750 In-Car Portable GPS Navigation "lets you identify destinations as pictures" thus opening the way for this type of device to be embraced by most travelers. ' Portable navigation systems have come a long way in terms of functionality. They can talk to you, alert you to traffic, and even entertain you. However, the Navman iCN 750 goes where no GPS device has gone before by incorporating a 1.3-megapixel camera into the unit. Designed for more than quick snapshots, the camera allows you to create and save image-based locations, so you can easily get directions the next time you visit the destination. It's a neat feature and works great; plus, it's an accurate navigator overall. However, it's not without its faults. The Navman is sluggish to perform tasks and is a bit pricey at $800. Still, you won't find another GPS device like this out there right now, and if you like to see the world through images, the Navman iCN 750 is definitely worth a look.'

USB Web Cam With Telescope

USB Web Cam With Telescope.jpg

Johnny over at Popgadget highlights a new device from usb.brando.com. which combines a USB Web Cam with a telescope which allows the user to "easily zoom to focus the distant objects clearly and make a high quality photograph". 'This morning Brando announced a white boxed USB webcam with tripod, but the kicker is that it comes with a separate 7x18 optical telescope! The auxiliary optics snap onto the front of the camera for a little assistance with those long range stakeouts. The SVGA 800 by 600 resolution won't be winning any awards for breakthrough technical achievements, but if you're in need of a long range USB surveillance then this $26 one trick pony is worth picking up.'

AkihabaraNews.com Samsung's 10MP Cameraphone

Samsung's 10MP cameraphone.jpg

Akihabara News provides a couple shots of the not-yet-available Samsung's 10MP Cameraphone. 'Samsung announced the first phone with integrated 10MP camera a while ago, and we were able to snap some pictures of this SCH-B600 at the COMM Korea 2006 expo.' First impressions tells me this is likely to be a little on the "bulky" side especially when the trend as far as the phones are concerned are tending towards the slimmer models. However, as this is the "first" phone with a 10MP camera and no doubt laden with features which may take a while to fathom, it would not be unreasonable to suggest Samsung has surely raised the bar in the competition to provide the ultimate telephone/camera device.

Dallasnews.com: On The Significance of Megapixels

I overheard a conversation between a camera salesman and another person where the former was recounting the many occasions where new camera buyers showed what he considered an unreasonable interest in the number of megapixels in the cameras on offer. He proceeded to explain the several other features which were of significance when considering the quality of a camera. This explanation on the DallasNews addresses the concern of megapixel significance and touches on related issues as well. 'Instead of capturing the optical image on film, a digital camera reads every tiny bit of light and describes its brightness and color in a computer file.

Acer CU-6530 Digital Camera

Acer CU-6530.jpg

After dispensing his initial apprehensions, Cliff Smith reviewed the Acer CU-6530 for Trusted Reviews. 'In both style and price it’s competing with the likes of the Pentax Optio S6 and Olympus FE-140, both of which have an RRP of £229. That’s a pretty ambitious start for a company that’s relatively new to the digital camera market. Can this new camera really compete with such long-established brands? The overall design of the CU-6530 is exceptionally good. The camera is comparable in size, weight and shape to the Optio S6, although it is actually 1mm thinner. The strong all-metal body has rounded corners and smoothly recessed controls, making it the ideal shape to slip into a shirt pocket or handbag. The matt grey finish and chrome details are stylish and durable, and the camera looks and feels a lot more expensive than it actually is.'

John Persichilli gives an enthusiastic approval to the SBIG ST-402ME CCD Imaging Camera in his "First Impressions" review of the device on Astromart. 'The fit and finish of the ST-402ME is excellent which is what I’ve come accustomed to having owned several SBIG cameras over the years. The operator’s manual is clearly written and easy to follow. The writer takes the owner through the steps necessary to get the camera software and hardware working and adds a few tips and tricks just in case there are installation problems, especially with USB ports.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1

Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1.bmp

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 digital SLR is not expected to hit the stores until later in the year but CNET has provided a preview of the gadget. 'Panasonic's Lumix DMC-L1 is the company's first digital SLR, and it looks like to be an impressive model. The fruit of a technology alliance between Panasonic and Olympus, the L1 is based on the same 7.5-megapixel nMOS sensor as the Olympus Evolt E-330--unsurprising, since Panasonic makes the chip--which enables the live-view LCD technology in both cameras. (This gives photographers the option to frame their shots with the L1's LCD instead of the optical viewfinder, just like a point-and-shoot model.) Olympus contributes the Supersonic Wave Filter technology, which repels dust from the sensor.'
