Nikon CoolPix S200 Review - Trusted Reviews

Nikon-CoolPix-S200-Review.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the Nikon CoolPix S200 ultracompact digital camera. 'Launched at the same time as the S500 and sharing a similar 7.1MP, 3x zoom, 2.5-in monitor specification, the S200 is nonetheless a very different camera. Where the S500 is replete with advanced technology and designer style, and aimed squarely at Canon's market-leading IXUS range, the S200 is aimed somewhat lower, taking on cameras such as the Pentax Optio M30 (£99), Olympus FE-230 (£99) Samsung L700 (£114), and the Casio EX-Z75 (£149). The S200 went on sale in March at £199, but it is currently available for as little as £123, which makes it fairly competitive on price.'

Review: Nikon Coolpix L12 Digital Camera - Pocket-Lint

Nikon-Coolpix-L12-Review.jpg

A review of the Nikon Coolpix L12 digital camera has been posted over at Pocket-Lint. 'The Coolpix L12 sits at the top of Nikon's L-series of budget digital cameras and despite the "usual" naming conventions and the "12" in the camera's name, this is not a 12-megapixel model but a 7.1-megapixel compact. This is a small but not ultra-compact digital camera that in terms of styling is pretty bland – in a pocketable way. Its features include a surprisingly high-end combination of Face detection AF, manual white balance control (as well as the standard set of presets) and optical image stabilisation.'

Nikon Coolpix L11 Review at CNET

Nikon-Coolpix-L11.jpg

A review of the Nikon Coolpix L11 digital camera has been posted over at CNET. 'Given the sub-$150 price tag, the Coolpix L11 is clearly designed more for the frugal than the fancy. The 6-megapixel camera sports a 37.5mm-to-112.5mm-equivalent 3x zoom lens and a relatively small 2.4-inch LCD screen. While its hardware hardly impresses, however, the camera offers some surprisingly useful features. The L11 includes Nikon's In-Camera Red-Eye Fix and Face-Priority AF. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix supplements the camera's red-eye reduction flash mode with a processing system that removes red-eye after the photo is taken. Face-Priority AF detects and tracks faces in photos, and adjusts focus to stay on those faces, instead of just the closest subject. Both features come standard on most Nikon Coolpix cameras, but are still handy for casual shooting.'

Nikon Coolpix P5000 Review at Digital Trends

Nikon-Coolpix-P5000-Digital-Trends.jpg

Digital Trends have published their review of the sleek Nikon Coolpix P5000 digital camera. 'The Nikon Coolpix P5000 looks like a thinner version of the zillions of 35mm point-and-shoot cameras lying in drawers around the world. Film as we all know is deader than the popularity of Congress and GWB. Overall the body has a nice textured finish, a comfortable pistol grip and even a non-skid pad to rest your right thumb when you’re framing your shots. Very nicely done. The black-bodied camera measures 3.9 x 2.5 x 1.6 (WHD, in inches) and weighs 8.4 ounces including battery, card and strap. It feels a lot lighter than it looks, which is good since this is camera for carrying around all the time in your pocket or purse.'

Nikon Coolpix S500 Review at LetsGoDigital

Nikon-Coolpix-S500-Reviewed.jpg

LetsGoDigital have published their review of the Nikon Coolpix S500 digital camera. 'The Nikon Coolpix S500 is a compact digital camera with quite a traditional appearance. The camera has been equipped with a small 3x optical zoom lens with a standard range of 35-105 mm. The value topping the one of its little brother, the Coolpix S200, is the integration of Nikons’ VR system. This optical image stabilization gives more security for sharp pictures, even in bad lighting situations. Besides this, the Nikon S500 camera knows a high sensitivity setting of 2000 ISO. However, in practice this is more a marketing tool than an effective setting.'

Nikon D40x Digital Camera Review at Personal Computer World

Nikon-D40x-Reviewed.jpg

Personal Computer World have published their review of the Nikon D40x DSLR camera. ‘One of the smallest and lightest DSLRs you can buy, the D40x is constructed from a lightweight yet rugged plastic and is comfortable to hold and to carry. The camera body is almost matched in size by that of the supplied 18-55mm kit lens. Just like the original D40, the D40x cuts costs by omitting the in-body focus motor used by other Nikon cameras to power autofocus lenses. This means that if you want autofocus, you’re restricted to a smaller selection of Nikon lenses that have motors incorporated into them. Like many modern compact DSLRs there’s no top-mounted LCD status panel, but the size and clarity of the rear 2.5in display goes a long way to counteracting this shortcoming.’

Nikon Coolpix S50c Review at PC Mag

Nikon-Coolpix-S50c-Review.jpg

PC Magazine have published their review of the Nikon Coolpix S50c digital camera. 'Boasting a wonderful iPod-like scroll wheel, which also activates a beautiful GUI, the compact 7.2-megapixel S50c has a big, 3-inch LCD and a non-telescoping lens. Interestingly, though, the "c" in the S50c name stands for the Coolpix Connect service. The camera has built-in IEEE 802.11b/g networking that can transfer pictures in one of two ways: sending the photos through e-mail (the Picture Mail feature) or storing them on a server (Nikon's Picture Bank feature). Both require a wireless LAN access point that supports a Wi-Fi connection to the Internet. Like Nikon's previous models with integrated wireless abilities, such as the Coolpix S7c, you can also hook up through a T-Mobile hot spot. But the S7c was limited in some ways. For example, you couldn't send a full-resolution image via e-mail with the S7c. The S50c has no such limitation.'

Nikon Coolpix P5000 Review at LetsGodigital

Nikon-Coolpix-P5000-Reviewed.jpg

LetsGoDigital have published their review of the Nikon Coolpix P5000 digital camera. ‘On paper the Nikon P5000 seems like an ideal camera for the experienced photographer who does not want to carry the complete SLR equipment, but demands a lot from a camera. With a 10 Megapixel resolution, the Nikon Coolpix P5000 is up to date with the latest trends. This resolution gives more than enough space to be able to make large prints or to edit the image extensively. For the advanced photographer it is also convenient that besides being able to do everything automatically, the camera’s aperture and shutter speed preferences can be operated manually.’

Nikon Coolpix S500 Review at Megapixel.net

Nikon-Coolpix-S500-Review.jpg

Megapixel.net have published their review of the Nikon Coolpix S500 digital camera. 'The Nikon Coolpix S500 is an ultra-compact camera that integrates a 7.1 megapixel CCD, a VR stabilized 3X optical zoom, and a 2.5-inch monitor. The body is surfaced in a champagne coloured brushed steel dotted with some bright metal highlights. And, although small, the Coolpix S500 has a reasonable weight that imparts it with a solid feel. Four controls are located on top of the camera. On the right, there is the power switch and the shutter release. In between is a rectangular LED that glows green when the camera is on, and blinks slowly when it is in sleep mode.'

Nikon Coolpix L12 - CNET

Nikon-Coolpix-L12.jpg

A review of the 7-megapixel Nikon Coolpix L12 budget shooter has been posted over at CNET. ‘Like most budget cameras, the 7-megapixel L12 focuses more on automation and simplicity than on customization. Besides white balance and a handful of scene presets, the camera automates most shooting settings, including ISO sensitivity. When shooting in low light, the L12 automatically boosts sensitivity up to ISO 1600, a potential problem for noise-wary shooters. Surprisingly, the L12 offers manual white balance along with the standard selection of incandescent, fluorescent, cloudy, sunny, and flash white balance presets.

Nikon Coolpix S500 – Digital Camera Review

Nikon-Coolpix-S500.jpg

A review of the compact Nikon Coolpix S500 digital camera has been posted over at Digital Camera Review. ‘This new addition to Nikon’s Coolpix “Style” series features a 7.1 megapixel sensor, 2.5 inch LCD monitor with 230,000 dot composition and a 3x Nikon optical zoom lens that provides a 35mm film equivalent focal length range of 35 to 105mm. The camera also features 15 scene options, optical Vibration Reduction, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, Face-Priority auto focus (AF) and Nikon’s excellent “D-Lighting” image correction function in addition to the standard “auto” mode. However, the power-on and shutter performance are what gives this camera its star status. Hit the power switch and the S500 is ready to shoot in 0.6 of a second. With focus acquired (and the S500 acquires focus pretty quickly in good lighting conditions) the shutter fires only 0.005 seconds after pressing the shutter button. This blazing performance is packaged into a sturdy and stylish stainless steel body that is easily pocket-portable, and build quality appears first class.’

Nikon Coolpix S50c Reviewed

Nikon-Coolpix-S50c.jpg

A review of the Nikon Coolpix S50c digital camera has been posted over at CNET. 'Some things never change. Some other things, such as Nikon's wireless S-series cameras, change a little bit at a time. Nikon's new Coolpix S50c is a whole lot like the S7c that the company offered last year. It boasts a 7.2-megapixel CCD imaging sensor, a 3X optical, 38mm-to-114mm-equivalent f/3.3-to-f/4.2 zoom lens, a 3-inch LCD, and houses it all in a cute, curvy-yet-slim casing that's available in silver or black. Oh yeah, and it can wirelessly upload (via built-in 802.11 b/g) your images to Nikon's CoolPix Connect 2 Web site and send e-mails to your friends and family so they can retrieve said photos for free. Other than some slight, but welcomed, control changes, the biggest and best difference between this and last year's model is the addition of optical image stabilization instead of the much-less-effective electronic stabilization found in the S7c.'

Nikon CoolPix P5000 - Trusted Reviews

Nikon--CoolPix-P5000-Review.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the Nikon CoolPix P5000 digital camera. 'Unlike the other two cameras in the premium P-series, the P3 and P4, the design of the P5000 is very functional, with a rectilinear body made mostly of magnesium alloy, a large rubberised handgrip and a row of buttons beside the 2.5-in, 230k monitor that are clearly intended to resemble those on the back of an SLR. Another SLR-like feature is the command dial on the top plate, used for altering shutter speed and aperture in manual exposure mode, and well as for some menu functions. Considering the relatively large number of external controls on a fairly small camera, the control layout is surprisingly uncluttered, leaving room for a large, secure rubberised thumbgrip.'

Nikon D40x - Camera Labs

Nikon-D40x-Review.jpg

Camera Labs have posted their review of the Nikon D40x DSLR camera. 'The Nikon D40x is a 10.2 Megapixel entry-level digital SLR aimed at general consumers, family users and photographic students. Announced in March 2007, it comes only four months after the launch of the 6 Megapixel D40, and indeed the new D40x is essentially identical other than a higher resolution sensor - and a higher price to reflect it. Nikon says the D40x is therefore designed as a step-up for anyone who loved the D40 but was put off by its lower resolution, although clearly it’s also now a direct rival for Canon’s massively successful EOS 400D / XTi.'

Nikon Coolpix P5000 - CNET

Nikon-Coolpix-P5000.jpg

A review of the compact Nikon Coolpix P5000 digital camera has been posted over at CNET. 'With cutting-edge capabilities like face-priority autofocus, optical image stabilization, and full-resolution sensitivity settings as high as ISO 2000 to augment its manual and semimanual exposure options, the P5000 fits some mighty attractive features into its 8.1-ounce, 3.9x2.5x1.6 inches (WHD) frame. Though only the front of the chassis uses magnesium alloy in its design, the camera feels quite sturdy. Its smallish, rubberized grip and thumb rest make the P5000 quite comfortable for one-handed shooting.

Nikon Coolpix S200 - Megapixel.net

Nikon-Coolpix-S200.jpg

Megapixel.net have published a review of the Nikon Coolpix S200 digital camera. 'The Coolpix S200 is the most compact camera currently in Nikon's line-up. When it is off and the lens is retracted, the camera is only 19 mm (0.76 inch) thick. This very compact size still allows for a conventional 3X optical zoom — unlike the periscope-like zooms of earlier Coolpix S series cameras — and a 7.1 megapixel resolution along with a 2.5-inch LCD display. The body is entirely made of aluminium, with a brushed finish on the front. And, while this allows the camera to be very light, it also feels a bit fragile. The top right side of the camera supports the On/Off switch and its LED, and a 2-stage shutter release. The LED lights up green when the camera is on, and blinks slowly when it enters sleep mode.'

Nikon D40x – Trusted Reviews

Nikon-D40x.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published a review of the entry level Nikon D40x DSLR camera. ‘The D40x is a 10.0-megapixel camera sporting a 23.6 x 15.8 mm DX-sized Sony CCD sensor, quite likely the same CCD found in the D80 and D200, generating a final image size of 3,872 x 2,592 pixels, compared to the 400D’s 3,888 x 2,592 from its CMOS sensor. Both cameras have a 2.5-in TFT LCD monitor with 230,000 pixels, a mirror-type viewfinder with 95 percent frame coverage, and a simple control interface utilising an on-screen menu system and a single data entry wheel, although the Nikon’s wheel is on the back. Like the 400D the D40x has no top-panel LCD data display, instead displaying shooting data on the monitor screen; however this is off most of the time and has to be activated with a button press. One difference is the choice of memory card. The 400D uses the CompactFlash format favoured by professionals, while the D40x uses SD cards including the new SDHC format.’

Nikon CoolPix L6 – Trusted Reviews

Nikon-CoolPix-L6-Review.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published their review of the Nikon CoolPix L6 pocket camera. ‘The L6 was launched last September alongside the CoolPix L5 that I reviewed last week. It is a basic six-megapixel, 3x zoom model with a 2.5in monitor screen. It is currently available for around £123, which might sound quite cheap for a good quality compact, but is actually slightly above the market average. In terms of specification it compares with the likes of the Olympus FE-210 (£95), Kodak EasyShare C653 (£100), Pentax Optio E20 (£100), Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S500 (£100), Ricoh Caplio RR630 (£110) and Fuji FinePix F20 (£135). So far, so average, but the CoolPix L6 has one extraordinary ability. Nikon claims that it has the longest battery life of any digital camera on the market, capable of over 1,000 shots on a pair of AA cells.’

Nikon Coolpix S10 – The Photography Blog

Nikon-Coolpix-S10-Review.jpg

The Nikon Coolpix S10 digital camera has been reviewed over at The Photography Blog. ‘The Nikon Coolpix S10 is a return to the past in terms of design, with the retro twisting body being first seen on Coolpix models like the 900 and 950. Nikon have brought that design bang up to date with a 10x optical zoom lens (38-380mm), large 2.5 inch LCD screen and maximum ISO of 800. Advanced Vibration Reduction helps to combat camera shake by shifting the camera's sensor, an essential feature with such a long lens, whilst the unique swivel body allows greater freedom to shoot from different angles. The Nikon S10 also features the usual trio of Nikon technologies, namely Face-priority AF, D-Lighting and In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, to help improve your photos. Other features include a 6 megapixel sensor, PictMotion movies, one-touch portrait button and 15 different scene modes.’

Nikon Coolpix S9 - Computer Active

Nikon-Coolpix-S9-review.jpg

A review of the Nikon Coolpix S9 digital camera has been posted over at Computer Active. 'Swelling Nikon’s ‘Style’ series, the slender metallic chassis of the S9 follows on from the Wifi equipped S7c, though it boasts a million less pixels under the bonnet (a still respectable 6.1 megapixels). With width and height a fraction larger than a credit card, and an internal 3x optical zoom, the S9 glides into palm or pocket. No mere boy racer, this lightweight compact features Nikon’s Face Priority AF whereby your subject remains sharp even if not central in the frame. It adds in-camera red eye fix, the ability to enhance detail in shadow and create frame-by-frame ‘stop motion’ clips.'

Nikon D2Xs (with lens) - CNET

Nikon-D2X.jpg

A review of the D2X Professional digital SLR camera from Nikon has been posted over at CNET. 'Built to last, with a weather-sealed magnesium alloy body, the Nikon D2Xs sports the same thoughtful design as its predecessor. Its built-in vertical grip helps make this model larger than the average SLR. It measures 6.2x5.9x3.4 inches without a lens, and at 2.8 pounds (with its battery and a CompactFlash card), it's not exactly light either, though it's still about half a pound lighter than the EOS-1Ds Mark II. That said, the D2Xs is extremely comfortable to hold, with a fully rubberized grip that's very nicely contoured. It even has a slight indentation on the inside of the front of the grip that, along with the curved ridge on the camera back, keeps the camera feeling secure in your hand no matter what angle you hold it at.

A review of the Nikon Coolpix S7c digital camera has been posted on the Digital Camera Resource Page. 'The Coolpix S7c ($350) is the update to the Coolpix S6, which was one of Nikon's first cameras to support Wi-Fi. The S7c supports Wi-Fi too -- in fact, it's been enhanced over its predecessor. While before you could just transfer photos to your computer wirelessly, the S7c lets you e-mail photos right from your camera, from almost any Wi-Fi access point. It's even preset for T-Mobile Hotspots (usually found at Starbucks), so you can send some photos while sipping your double americano.'

Digital Camera Review have published their review of the Nikon D40 DSLR camera. 'Since this is a digital SLR, you get a true optical viewfinder. The viewfinder is actually very nice and bright. A diopter adjustment is available so that the focus point marks and information in the viewfinder are sharp. The viewfinder covers about 95% of the actual captured image. Digital Camera Review have posted their review of the 7-megapixel Nikon Coolpix S7c digital camera. 'As one of Nikon’s Style cameras, the S7c gets an ultra-slim, all metal body with a nice glossy gray (almost charcoal) finish. Silver/chrome accents and controls add to the appeal, along with the huge 3 inch LCD on the back.On the front of the camera, you’ll see the built-in flash, lens and focus assist/self timer lamp. The back of the camera is dominated by the 3 inch, 230K pixel screen. There is a button to toggle between capture and playback mode, a button to access the mode menu, a button to access the camera menu and a delete button. The S7c also has a rotating control wheel mounted on top of a 5-way control pad. The wheel allows easy scrolling through images and settings. Nikon D40 - The Photography Blog

Nikon-D40-Review.jpg

A review of the 6 megapixel Nikon D40 digital SLR camera has been posted at The Photography Blog. 'Despite being aimed at the new digital SLR owner, the D40 is still a fairly complex camera in terms of functionality and the number of external controls that it offers, with around 16 in total and some of them having more than one function. Despite the presence of so many buttons and switches, the Nikon D40 doesn't feel too cluttered or intimidating and quickly becomes second-nature to use. The D40 is very comfortable in terms of handling. The camera has a deep, contoured handgrip on the right-hand side, coated in a rubberized compound to aid grip, that enabled me to use three fingers to hold it and my right forefinger to operate the shutter button.

Fit and finish leave nothing to be desired. The L5 features a 7.2 mega pixel sensor and Nikon 5X optical zoom that provides a 35mm camera equivalent of 38 to 190mm focal lengths. Photo composition and playback are accomplished by means of a 2.5 inch LCD monitor – there is no viewfinder. Despite its small size, the camera’s external controls can be accessed easily without overlapping buttons. Nikon D80 - PC Authority

Nikon-D80-Review.jpg

PC Authority have posted their review of the 10 megapixel Nikon D80 digital camera. 'In use, what immediately strikes is just how easy it is to set the camera quickly for any shot, while barely having to take your eye from the viewfinder. Everything is at your fingertips; our favourite inclusion is the dedicated exposure-bracketing button, located on the side of the body where your left thumb naturally falls. Using this and a combination of the primary and secondary command dials – which fall under your right-hand index finger and thumb – you can activate bracketing and choose both the amount of compensation (between 0.3 and 2 stops) and whether to bracket either side, only under or only over. The two command dials make adjusting almost every setting completely intuitive: in fully manual mode, for instance, your index finger sets aperture, while your thumb sets shutter speed – no fumbling required.'

Nikon Coolpix S9 – DPInterface

Nikon-Coolpix-S9.bmp

DPInterface has reviewed the slim Nikon Coolpix S9 digital camera.’ The Nikon Coolpix S9 is one of the smallest cameras in the very competitive ultra-compact camera category, and a light one too. With its tiny dimensions and light weight, you could bring this camera anywhere. The Nikon Coolpix S9 has 24 MB of internal memory, which holds up to 9 photos at the highest settings. I'd recommend at least a 1 GB Secure Digital card to start with. The camera doesn't take advantage of high-speed cards.
