Olympus FE-300 Review - InfoSync World

Olympus-FE-300.jpg

InfoSync World have published a review of the Olympus FE-300 compact digital camera. ‘The 2.5-inch screen on the FE-300 is about standard for a camera its size, but oddly enough, Olympus went with a matte as supposed to glossy display. The benefits (or detriments) of this type of display are arguable, so we won’t be drawing any lines in the sand. It lacks an optical viewfinder like most cameras in its class, including the Casio EX-S880, so if you manage to break the LCD, you’ve managed to create a shiny new paperweight. We’re still waiting for Olympus to catch up with Sony and release a touch screen model; were they to, this is where they would put it.’

Olympus E510 Digital Camera Review - LetsGoDigital

Olympus-E510-Digital-Camera.jpg

LetsGoDigital have published their review of the Olympus E510 digital camera. 'The appearance of the Olympus E-510 is clearly different than that of the E-500. It looks more like a regular D-SLR than its predecessor did. It reminds you more of a bigger version of the E-410. There is nothing wrong with that, because it is a great design and it reminds you of the OM series. It is one of the most beautiful and compact SLR cameras. The positioning of the camera in the hand is excellent and it does not weigh too much or too little, so that it feels like you have a real camera in your hands. On the front of the camera the most obvious feature is the metal mount. The advantage of the FourThirds System is that you are not restricted to a particular brand of lens, as long as it is compatible with the system. You can easily use a Leica/Panasonic lens on the Olympus E-510, and vice versa.'

Olympus Stylus 820 Review - CNET

Olympus-Stylus-820.jpg

A review of the sleek Olympus Stylus 820 digital camera has been posted over at CNET. 'Among Olympus' myriad Stylus cameras, two features distinguish the 8-megapixel 820: its lens and its screen. The Stylus 820 packs a 36 to 180mm-equivalent, 5x zoom lens that gives it a slightly longer reach than the higher-resolution Stylus 1200. Unfortunately, the Stylus 820's longer lens carries a slow f/3.3-5.0 aperture range, compared to the f/2.8-4.8 range of the 1200's 3x lens. Despite its longer reach, the 820 lacks the sensor-shift image stabilization of the 1200, relying on the less effective method of ISO-boosting, shutter-quickening digital stabilization. The step-up version of the Stylus 820, the Stylus 830, includes the mechanical stabilization found on the higher-end Stylus, but otherwise offers nearly identical features to its little brother. Be wary, though; the Stylus 830 carries an $80 premium over the Stylus 820 for its seemingly singular upgrade.'

Olympus FE-250 Review - Trusted Reviews

Olympus-FE-250-Reviewed.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published their review of the Olympus FE-250 compact digital camera. 'Olympus has decided that it has a "one button, one function design principle", and it is certainly embodied by the FE-250. The external controls are also minimal, which makes the camera extraordinarily easy to operate. The main menu is also virtually bare, with image size and quality options (only five choices), ISO setting and drive mode, which can be accessed directly from shooting mode anyway, sound recording and panorama stitching mode. There are the usual camera set-up options such as language, date and time and memory card formatting, but that's about it. One uncommon but useful feature is pixel mapping, which can remove any dead pixels, but one thing notable by its absence is the ability to turn off digital zoom.'

Olympus E-510 Review - E Photo Zine

Olympus-E-510-Reviewed.jpg

E Photo Zine have published a review of the Olympus E-510 DSLR camera. ‘Upgraded from the E-500, the Olympus E-510 has a larger resolution, 3fps, Live MOS sensor replacing the old CCD, Image stabiliser, the Olympus Live preview which only lasts a few seconds, Dust reduction which interests me as they don't say dust removal, and a faster Trupic III turbo processor. Looking at the Olympus E-510, it is a nice compact size with lots of buttons which makes it look more professional than it really is, and is surprisingly heavier than its predecessor. The top of the camera has the shutter release in the usual place with the exposure compensation button sat just behind.’

Olympus Evolt E-510 Review – Digital Trends

Olympus-Evolt-E-510-Review.jpg

A review of the Olympus Evolt E-510 DSLR camera has been posted over at Digital Trends. ‘First things first—the difference between the E-410/510 is a lot more than a hundred bucks. The E-510 is larger and heftier than the E-410 making it easier to hold. The E-510 is still pretty lightweight and won’t wreak your shoulder—it tips the scales at 16.6 ounces for the body only compared to 13.2 for the E-410--which is the lightest D-SLR available. Besides the heft, the E-510 has built-in sensor shift image stabilization so no matter which lens you attach you get the benefits of IS. While it’s no panacea it does help you shoot in low light with less chance of blur and helps eliminate most jitter when you’re in extreme telephoto settings.’

Preview: Olympus Mju 790 SW - CNET Asia

Olympus-Mju-790-SW.jpg

CNET Asia have published a preview of the tough Olympus Mju 790 SW digital camera. 'Built like a tank, the previous 770 SW looked as if it was designed to withstand bullets. It was tough, heavy and just about as attractive as a silver-skinned ogre. Male geeks loved it. But because of its Incredible Hulk attributes, it was hardly a fit for a too-chic Gucci clutch bag. The new 790 SW, on the other hand, is a decidedly prettier offering. It's available in five colors and brings to mind comic book characters like Batgirl, Elektra and even Storm from the X-men series--sexier alter egos to the beefy superheroes.'

Olympus Stylus 780 Review - Laptop Mag

Olympus-Stylus-780.jpg

Laptop Magazine have published a review of the compact Olympus Stylus 780 digital camera. 'The Stylus 780 is the first point-and-shoot to use Olympus' new digital processing engine, the TruePic III Image Processor. This technology allows for mechanical image stabilization (MIS), which helps steady the shot by allowing the image sensor to move along the X- and Y-axes and compensate for movement by the photographer. We took photos of the Manhattan skyline using the Night Scene mode (which took all photos at a four-second exposure and ISO 250), and while the MIS helped steady a freehand shot, the photo was still blurry, though less so than with the MIS off. When we did the same test with the camera rested on a sturdy ledge, the MIS compensated for our shaky hand movement when pushing the shutter to remove any blur we saw without MIS, helping us get a perfect shot.'

Olympus E-410 Review at Trusted Reviews

Olympus%20E-410.jpg

Trusted Reviews have published their review of the compact Olympus E-410 Digital SLR camera. ‘It is in outward appearance that the two new Olympus DSLRs differ most. While the E-510 is a full-size SLR with a large handgrip, the E-410 has the same slim, compact design of the E-400. In fact it is exactly the same size and weight as its predecessor, measuring a tiny 129.5 x 91 x 53 mm and weighing only 375g body-only, making it one the smallest and lightest DSLRs on the market, and over 100g lighter than any of its immediate rivals. The lack of a large handgrip may feel a bit odd if you’re used to larger modern SLRs, but for anyone who’s been around a few years it will have a pleasantly nostalgic feel, reminiscent of old film SLRs such as Olympus’ own OM system. The slim profile does mean that the top plate is a bit crowded, especially on the right, but in actual use this doesn’t seem to present any problem, and the camera handles extremely well. It is also light enough to operate comfortably with one hand.’

Olympus-E-410.jpg

The PhotographyBLOG have published a review of the Olympus E-410 Digital SLR camera. ‘The Olympus E-410 is one of the world’s most compact DSLR cameras with Live Preview, allowing you to frame your shot using either the optical viewfinder or the 2.5 inch LCD screen. Based on the Four Thirds Standard, the Olympus E-410 replaces the E-400 and features a a new 10 megapixel Live MOS sensor. There's also a new image processing engine which provides sequential shooting at up to 3 frames per second with an eight image RAW buffer in burst mode. Olympus Evolt E-510 Review at Digital Camera Review

Olympus-Evolt-E-510.jpg

A review of the Olympus Evolt E-510 digital SLR camera has been posted over at Digital Camera Review. ‘The feature rich E-510 is a Four Thirds format, 10 megapixel dSLR with on-board mechanical/digital image stabilization and a cutting edge Supersonic Wave Filter dust reduction system. More important to P&S digicam users graduating from fixed lens digital cameras to modular SLR imaging platforms, the E-510 sports a new N-MOS (live CMOS) sensor that allows (unlike the vast majority of dSLRs) the LCD screen to be used as a viewfinder - for composing (not just reviewing) images. Equally impressive is the E-510’s ergonomic footprint - this digital camera is as compact and easy to use as many of today’s long zoom P&S digital cameras. Consumers who like the convenience and immediacy of P&S prosumer digicams like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 will adore the E-510.’

Review: Olympus E410 Digital SLR Camera Pocket-Lint

Olympus-E410.jpg

A review of the Olympus E410 DSLR camera has been posted over at Pocket-Lint. ‘Barely 6 months on from the launch of the E400, Olympus announced an updated version of that camera which, while almost identical, has a couple of important differences. Overall, its design, build, and shooting options remain unchanged (also read my Olympus E400 review for more specifics on these), the E410 includes a new, Matsushita-made Live-MOS sensor that affords the previously unique-to-Olympus-DSLRs Live View feature; rather flatteringly to Olympus, in my view, Canon’s new top-end EOS 1D Mk III has a version of the system.’

Olympus FE-250 – Digital Camera Review

Olympus-FE-250-Review.jpg

Digital Camera Review have published their review of the Olympus FE-250 digital camera. ‘The FE-250 is very slim and pocketable and looks like a much more expensive camera than it really is. It measures 3.7" W x 2.2" H x 0.88" D and weighs 4.1 ounces without battery or a media card. Build quality is excellent and the controls are easy to access. The zoom control is the ring type of control around the shutter button and is easy to operate. The shooting mode dial makes it easy to move around various shooting modes quickly and with a glance. In case you’re not sure, there are plenty of on-screen instructions and descriptions about pretty much everything you can do with the camera. The 5-way control pad is a little hard to operate, requiring a little more strength to operate than is typical.’

Olympus FE-250 - CNET

Olympus-FE-250.jpg

CNET have published a review of the Olympus FE-250 digital camera. The attractive, compact FE-250 measures 0.8 inch thick and weighs less than five ounces. Its small metal body fits comfortably in most pockets. Despite its small size, the camera's various controls are easy to manipulate, with buttons large enough for those of us with big thumbs to use. The FE-250's most notable feature is its pixel count. At 8 megapixels, the FE-250 is the highest-resolution FE series camera so far. Besides the increased resolution, the FE-250 sports fairly mundane features, like a 35-to-105mm-equivalent 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5-inch LCD screen.’

Olympus SP-550 UZ Reviewed

Olympus-SP-550-UZ-review.jpg

Digital Camera Review have published a review of the Olympus SP-550 UZ camera. 'The Olympus SP-550 UZ is a great choice for someone looking for a long zoom. It's more expensive than some of its competitors, like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8, but if you want that extra zoom reach - the SP-550 UZ is the way to go. The capability of the camera to shoot at ISO 5000 and the ability to take 15fps sequential shots makes it a possible candidate for someone looking to take action shots of their kids on the soccer or football field. The SP-550 UZ has several improvements over the previous SP model, the SP-510 UZ. It does have the same capture resolution, but probably the most significant features are the longer zoom (18x vs 10x in SP-510 UZ) and dual image stabilization.'

Olympus FE-240 CNET

Olympus-FE-240.jpg

A review of the Olympus FE-240 (black) 7-Megapixel digital camera has been posted over at CNET. 'The FE-240's performance ranged from mediocre to terrible. After a 2.6-second start-up time, we could only fire off a shot every 5.1 seconds; that painful wait increased to 5.7 seconds with the onboard flash enabled. While 5 seconds is indeed far too long to wait between shots, it's not too surprising; the previous-generation FE-200 had shot-to-shot times of more than 7 seconds. The shutter wasn't nearly as responsive as it should have been, lagging 0.8 second on our high-contrast target and 1.9 seconds in low-contrast conditions. Like almost all Olympus FE-series cameras, the FE-240 doesn't have any burst mode.

Olympus Stylus 770 SW - Digital Camera Review

Olympus-Stylus-770-SW.jpg

The Olympus Stylus 770 SW weather-proof camera has been reviewed over at Digital Camera Review. ‘The Olympus Stylus 770 SW succeeds the Stylus 720 SW and does get a few new features. It still has the same 7.1 megapixel resolution and 2.5 inch screen, but the 770 gets more resolution in the LCD (from 115K to 230K pixels). The waterproof feature is also improved, allowing you to submerge the camera to 33 feet under water. Olympus has also added some more “rugged” features – it’s crushproof to 220 pounds and it is freezeproof to 14 degrees Fahrenheit. A built-in manometer records air pressure or water pressure and altitude to your image data and a built-in LED illuminator are other new features to the latest shockproof, waterproof camera from Olympus.’

Olympus Stylus 760 - ZDNet

Olympus-Stylus-760.jpg

The Olympus Stylus 760 weather-resistant camera has been reviewed over at ZDNet ‘The Stylus 760 features Olympus' Dual Image Stabilization (DIS), a hybrid electronic and mechanical system that combines ISO boosting with shifting the camera's sensor to compensate for shake. The latter does the bulk of the work. You can enable DIS by pressing a tiny button on top of the camera, next to the shutter release. While DIS helped reduce some shake and blur in our photos, it just didn't seem quite as effective as the optimal image stabilization we've seen on other compact cameras, such as the Canon PowerShot SD800 IS. Still, the feature works better than most cameras that just boost the sensor's sensitivity.

On the one hand, it's is a solidly built EVF, with an astonishing 18X optical zoom (4.68-84.24mm f/2.8-4.5, or a 28-504mm equivalent in 35mm), effective sensor-shift image stabilization, a 7.1 Megapixel CCD, a RAW shooting mode, and lots of other impressive features. It is a sturdy and hefty chunk of metal with bolts visible on almost every side. This Stylus isn’t meant to be aesthetically gorgeous; it is meant to be more functional than anything – and function despite everything. The camera is “proofed” of just about everything: water, shock, crush, and freeze. Olympus E400 - Lets Go Digital

Olympus-E400.jpg

Lets Go Digital have reviewed the ultra-compact 10-megapixel Olympus E40 D-SLR camera. 'The new Olympus E-400 has the difficult task of competing with models like the EOS 400D from Canon, the Nikon D80 and the surprisingly versatile Pentax K10D digital SLR camera. None of these cameras, however, have the light and compact features of the world's smallest SLR. The Olympus E400 is a digital SLR camera from the FourThirds system which was pioneered by Olympus. Since recently, Olympus has been joined by two other supporters of this system, and they are no small fry, but Panasonic and Leica. It is true that these companies work together very closely and so it is not so surprising that both have chosen for the same system. It still says, however, that Olympus's daring approach, in setting up the FourThirds system, was a good step technically. However, technical quality is not the only guarantee of success…. '

Personal Computer World have posted their review of the Olympus E-400 digital SLR. 'Weighing only 375g (excluding both the lens and battery), the E-400 is significantly smaller and lighter than any other digital SLR on the market. Despite its small size, it’s not a true entry-level camera; its specification and price place it in a tier above products such as the new Nikon D40. As a 10-megapixel digital SLR, it’s bound to invite comparison with other similarly specified SLRs, including Nikon’s D80 and Canon’s EOS 400D.

There are 25 scene modes that provide a good range of automatic shooting options including portrait and landscape modes, sports and a candle plus a few less ordinary options such as a cuisine mode. Olympus SP-510 UZ - Digital Camera Review

Olympus-SP-510-UZ.jpg

The Olympus SP-510 UZ digital camera has been reviewed over at Digital Camera Review. 'The SP-510 UZ features a relatively high-eyepoint tunnel style electronic viewfinder (EVF). The SP-510 UZ’s high resolution (235,000 pixels) EVF is noticeably sharper than the LCD screen – which is nice for veteran shooters who generally eschew arms-length LCD screen composition in favor of traditional framing/composition techniques. The EVF is also fairly bright, which helps when glare and harsh outdoor lighting make the SP-510 UZ’s 2.5 inch low resolution (115,000 pixels) LCD screen unusable. The EVF is essentially hue (color) accurate, but EVF/LCD images are noticeably warmer than the actual images captured. The EVF (like the LCD screen) is fluid - movement is smooth rather than jerky, but there’s no diopter correction for eyeglasses wearers.'

'Apart from the increased diving depth the 725 has an identical specification to the 720 and shares the same components, which is a pity because some of them aren’t very good. Review: Olympus FE-190 - DCRP

Olympus-FE-190.jpg

A review of the Olympus FE-190 Digital Camera has been posted over on the Digital Camera Resource Page. 'Like many cameras these days, Olympus has built memory right into the camera instead of bundling a memory card. The FE-190 has 22MB of onboard memory, which holds a grand total of five photos at the highest quality setting. That means that you'll want to get a memory card right away. Like all Olympus cameras, the FE-190 uses xD Picture Cards, and I'd suggest starting out with a 512MB card. There's no need to get a high speed (Type H) card for use with this camera. The FE-190 uses the familiar LI-42B lithium-ion battery. This compact battery holds a paltry 2.7 Wh of energy, which is about as low as you'll find these days.'
